As a homeschooling mom, I keep my eyes peeled for easy ways to incorporate “fun learning” into our days at home. So, when I was given the opportunity to try Animo with my boys, I was thrilled! I did not go into the experience with any expectations because I wanted the boys to give me their honest, raw feedback on the game.
The first thing that I noticed when we cracked opened the game was their enthusiasm about the card characters. Names like “Hippocritter” and “Toadken” cracked them up and they delighted in the animated drawings. I repeatedly heard comments such as “These are so funny, mom,” and “Ah! This card is so cool!” It was great to watch their enthusiasm grow as they met new characters while playing the game.
Beyond the creative names and artistic appeal to each character, the boys were really drawn into the game itself, which teaches them to fight the sinful characters with good-natured ones in order to obtain points. They loved conquering the sinnies and gaining the points needed to win the game. It was not uncommon to hear an excited squeal when they obtained victory.
As a parent, I find it excellent at how scripture is the power behind the game and what will help players to ultimately win! Playing this game repeatedly, which mine enjoy doing now, easily transfers these wonderful spiritual truths into childrens’ minds and hearts, which are so impressionable at this time in their lives. It is a really natural and fun way to memorize God’s truths that are so transforming!
Additionally, we really enjoy the speed of the game. We can easily incorporate it into our morning Bible study or even use it as a break between subjects that we study at home. We are learning God’s truths in a unique, fun, and creative way. As a parent, that is a WIN-WIN!
Now that we have been playing this game for a while, my boys are wondering if there are more characters they can meet. They are excited for ANIMO to grow and for the game to keep expanding with new creatures, both good-natured and sinful ones to defeat! Thank you to the makers of ANIMO: You guys are awesome and are certainly in tune with what children need. What an incredible tool parents and families can use to nurture spiritual growth and enhance childrens’walk with God as they influence this world. I will certainly continue to use this both in my home and also recommend it to families in my practice who are looking for creative ways to engage in God’s truths as a family!
